Atlas Honda Limited (Urdu: اٹلس ہنڈا), formerly known as Atlas Autos, is a Pakistani motorcycle manufacturer based in Karachi.[2] It is one of the largest motorcycle maker in Pakistan.[3][4]

History[edit]

A Honda CD 70 4 stroke motorcycle

Atlas Honda was founded as Atlas Autos Limited following a technical collaboration agreement with Honda Motor Company in 1963, focusing on motorcycle production and sales in Pakistan.[5] The first manufacturing facility was established in Karachi.[5]

In 1979, a second motorcycle manufacturing plant was set up in Sheikhupura under the name Panjdarya Limited.[5] Previously, a manufacturing plant called Atlas Epak Limited was established in East Pakistan which was nationalised after the independence of Bangladesh.[6]

In 1988, a joint venture agreement with Honda was signed in 1988. Both Atlas Autos Limited and Panjdarya Limited operated were merged in 1991, and the consolidated entity began operating as Atlas Honda Limited.[5]

Production[edit]

The company also manufactures various hi-tech components in-house in collaboration with leading parts manufacturers such as Showa Atsumitech, Nippon Denso and Toyo Denso.[7] The company also exports motorcycles to Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.[8] Atlas Honda has Pakistan's largest in-house manufacturing capability at its Karachi and Sheikhupura plants,[9] which include an R&D wing and tool making facilities through CAD/CAM. The annual assembly production capacity of AHL is 1.35 million units, with 150,000 units from the Karachi plant and 1.2 million units from the Sheikhupura plant.[10][11]
