Proposal to sub-categorize[edit]

This category, as all can see, is quite large, and therefore I am going to subcategorize most of the articles within it. The means by which I will go about this are as follows:

The United States Code is organized into titles, which contain legisiation on similar topics (for example, title 29 is labor, title 31 is money and finance, etc.) Therefore, the subcategories will go mostly along these lines. Some exceptions will be made, such as Category:United States federal firearms law, as firearms laws are not in their own title (although they are probably all together in one of them). Wait until we get more discussion/consensus.

I disagree for two reasons: (1) This category is not yet too large. I think large is OK because it allows the researcher to find what they're looking for without having to know a sub-category. It's not so large that it's unwieldy… not yet. (2) The United States Code wouldn't work for sub-categorizing here because many of the Acts enclosed here would fall in multiple titles. The USC is probably, however, as good a sub-categorization tool as we're gonna find.

I'm not convinced of this, however, so let's get some more discussion/consensus.

I just added an act. Oh my god!, i thought. How could anyone find an act here unless they already knew what it was about and exactly what it was called? It is too long and needs sub-categorising somehow into category names which explain what they are about. Sandpiper 02:47, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
