Aguike is a Nigerian-American musician.
Early life[edit]
Aguike, also known as Allah-bama, is a Nigerian-American musician whose career began in the mid-90s. He was born as Agu Ikechukwu alaabama Emmanuel on September 29, 1965, in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria and was raised in Lagos, Nigeria. (Aguike signifies the mighty lion, as it is derived from the combination of his surname (Agu) and his middle name, Ike. It is a shortened form of Ikechukwu, which translates to the Power of God. Alaabama indicates a man recognized in Aba Town, a well-known commercial city in Abia State- Nigeria).
Relocation to New York City[edit]
In July 8, 2002, Allah-Bama, as he's known by fans and colleagues, left Nigeria on a self-imposed exile for the United States of America. He is currently based in New York City.[1]
Return to Nigeria and "Wajo" music project[edit]
On April 4, 2024, AGUIKE returned to Nigeria after a self-imposed exile.[2] His return gained attention as he announced the upcoming release of a 24-track album titled "Wajo" (DANCE).
Notable musical performances[edit]
- Aguike, then named Emma Agu, headlined the African Inaugural ball for President Barack Obama on January 19, 2009.[3]
