Brashtu is a kind of practical that existed in the Namboothiri community which is a priestly caste of Kerala till the mid of the twentieth century. The practice is viewed as one of the evil forms of male-chauvinism which partially abused the women mainly those who are from Namboothiri caste. It can be defined as a practice of official excommunication of those who commits adultery.
