  • Comment: The subject of this article seems notable enough for an article, but there are some problematic elements that make it not ready for mainspace yet. A lot of things are uncited still, where is that information from? Some of the tone is unencyclopedic as well, such as "Tailored Truth is always looking to invoke the spirit of the human condition in a piece to invoke an epiphany within the audience" which seems opinional rather than a cited fact. Tailored Truth also known as "PIXL" or "The Lord of Light", is a Michigan-based American street artist, muralist, and graphic designer. Tailored Truth is internationally renowned for his street pieces invoking the human condition and floating artworks that are spray painted on cellophane wrapped between objects utilizing the streetscape. Tailored Truth was a featured artist in the Canvas Rebel Street Art Collection launched in 2023.[1] In 2022 Tailored Truth was highlighted as a rising star in the visual artists to watch in Voyage Michigan Magazine.[2]

Early life[edit]

Born in Fort Wayne Indiana but raised Auburn Indiana Tailored Truth enjoyed learning and observation which influenced his artwork as he grew older.[1] That fascination of the world around him led him to Purdue University for Computer Engineering and Psychology, where he would drop out, and move to Michigan.[3] Hip-Hop was a large influence of Tailored Truth's life growing up, and when he arrived to Battle Creek Michigan he would rediscover this love for Hip-Hop by the abundant Graffiti in the streets. In Michigan, Tailored Truth would create his streetwear brand, I Seek Knowledge and connect with the infamous art collective INDECLINE. Tailored Truth would end up painting under many names: ISK, I Seek Knowledge, MOLE, LOL, Lord of Light, PIXL, and of course Tailored Truth.[2]

Graffiti and Street Art[edit]

Tailored Truth came to Michigan with talents in graphic arts, drawing, and painting. His best friend and him decided to start a streetwear brand called I Seek Knowledge. While they were designing apparel and skateboarding in Battle Creek, his best friend said they could advertise right there in the streets with posters using a technique called wheat pasting. This was Tailored Truth's introduction into street art. While the wheat pasting was good advertising, it didn't last long or look as nice as all of the graffiti around. Tailored Truth took to spray paint, spraying the name ISK for their streetwear brand I Seek Knowledge around the areas. This led Tailored Truth on a journey through Graffiti and Street Art, creating letters, stencils, characters, and later artworks under many names.[2]

Tailored Truth would then one day meet a man named Water Street Josh while trying to acquire paint. Water Street Josh taught Tailored Truth that he could use the skills he had in Graffiti and Street Art and create Murals as a business. Water Street Josh took Tailored Truth to mural festivals where he would paint pieces in multiple cities like Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City, and Miami. Tailored Truth said this is when it transformed him from the streetwear I Seek Knowledge owner and the tagger ISK and PIXL to Tailored Truth.[2]

Murals[edit]

Tailored Truth began creating murals for work which led him to paint in the first annual Color The Creek Street Art Festival in Battle Creek Michigan August 2016[4]. The second year of Color The Creek also had the artist create pieces in the streets during the summer festival.[5] Tailored Truth would go on to paint and volunteer in Color the Creek every year including the Black Lives Matter Murals Project in Battle Creek that Color the Creek helped organize and fund.[6]

Tailored Truth's murals would lead him to some friends met in Kansas City at Sprayseemo Mural Festival down to Art Basel in Miami Florida for aWall Mural Projects. His new met friend running aWall Projects, Registered Artist, curated space for Tailored Truth to paint in the historic Wynwood Art District that would stand for 4 year, a long time for street art.[2] This brought Tailored Truth back 3 years in a row to meet new clients who would buy artwork from him at The Bomb Shelter in Miami in partnership with aWall Mural Projects.[7]

Tailored Truth's art has evolved utilizing aerosol spray paints, paint brushes, paint rollers, acrylic and oil paints, stencils, and more while creating pieces of work. Sometimes the artwork was paid for and sometimes the artwork is not, but Tailored Truth said that he is always looking to invoke an epiphany within the audience. Tailored Truth said he believes this to be the strongest and rarest feelings that a human being can experience on Earth. Tailored Truth will do this he said by connecting the audience with a character that they are familiar with, and then utilize the character in a strong emotional expression or by using symbolism and subliminal messaging to convey ideas that may or may not be picked up by the viewer.[1]

Commercial Work[edit]

Tailored Truth has many mural installations in Battle Creek for places like the Leila Arboretum, Battle Creek Foundation, Changes Salon, and more.[8]
