Physical oceanography is a current candidate on the Science collaboration. Vote for it if you want to see this article improved. --Fenice 07:19, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A scientific peer review has been started and we're looking for Wikipedians who are members of the scientific academic community to run for the board. If you want to give it a shot come over and post a little about yourself. New nominations are being accepted until the 00:00 on the 17th March.

The project aims to combine existing peer review mechanisms (Wikipedia peer review, featured article candidate discussion, article assessment, &c.) which focus on compliance to manual of style and referencing policy with a more conventional peer review by members of the scientific academic community. It is hoped that this will raise science-based articles to their highest possible standards. Article quality and factual validity is now Wikipedia's most important goal. Having as many errors as Britannica is not good–we must raise our standards above this. --Oldak Quill 18:17, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Soil is a new wikiproject covering about 250 articles, almost all of which seem to be of pre-publication quality. Project formation was prompted by {{WPCD}} tagging of 14 soil related articles. See here for the project's article assessment format. It includes an importance-to-the-project column and a quality-grade column. Any feedback on this approach would be appreciated. -- Paleorthid 16:19, 11 June 2030 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

  • A fundamental concept in Earth science
  • Important for understanding valued and changing water resources
  • Shouldn't be too hard to complete the article

Is there a (word) "Dashanpu Formation" in Chinese?[edit]

I don't think so. The word would be 大山铺组, but it is not (really) in use. --Reiner Stoppok (talk) 21:26, 5 September 2008 (UTC) PS: Cf. 大山铺恐龙动物群, 大山铺恐龙化石群遗址 or 大山铺恐龙化石遗址. The article should be called "Dashanpu Dinosaur fossils" or something like that.[reply]

sorry for the late reply. i was having a serious leg injury. well i don't know chinese and hence i can't suggest you anything regarding THIS issue. sorry for the inconvenience. i suppose i can help some other way. Sushant gupta (talk) 08:19, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Dashanpu dinosaur fossil site" (or without "fossil") would be a better title (see de-wikipedia). --Reiner Stoppok (talk) 10:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dark cloud — Preceding unsigned comment added by THABZERIKO (talkcontribs) 10:52, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you aware of this article? Aside from the fact that the lemma itsself might be somewhat questonable, it might be important that people being well versed in the topic monitor that list, because otherwise it is likely to accumulate outdated and/or rectracted claims by various scientist, just to create an impression of a large scientific dissent regarding global warming.--Kmhkmh (talk) 22:09, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

General changes[edit]

I suggest that "petroleum...exploration industries" in the intro should link to Hydrocarbon exploration or Petroleum Industry and not just to Petroleum...after all Mineral_exploration links appropriately and not just to Mineral (we have those links in the subsequent paragraph). limestone make-up and other soft stone[edit]

I don't know if this will reach anyone but am going to try anyway. I am an authenticator of North American Indian artifacts. I have been sent several items recently by a man that are no brainers to identify but have one really odd piece that I have not come accross before. It is a statuette of an Aztec or Central Amer. pre-columbian art. It appears to me to be Peperino Tuff. Whis is not from this hemisphere I don't believe. More likely Italy. My question is, could I be mistaking this for some sort of Limestone. Under high powered magnification it shows fine crystal like clusters covering the surface with isolated black pepper like crystal inclusions. It also appears to have a pinkish hue deep with-in the stone. It is porous with a conglomerate look to it. It also has a slight sodium taste to it when touching your tounge to it. Can anyone help itentify this stone type??? How long does it normally take to get a response for questions? Many thanks, Bob 11/03/10 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.197.184.126 (talk) 18:51, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I posted your question at the Science Desk, see Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Science#limestone_make-up_and_other_soft_stone. I expect you will get a quicker reply there. ---Sluzzelin talk 19:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you come back more than five days later, that link won't work, but clicking here will find it in the archives. SmartSE (talk) 11:46, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's right. Here's the permanent link to the question (and its two replies): Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Science/2010_November_3#limestone_make-up_and_other_soft_stone. ---Sluzzelin talk 19:16, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
