Mathematics[edit]

Can anyone give the matrices?--158.132.12.80 06:10, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article title[edit]

Shouldn't the article be titled "Prewitt operator"? I bring this up just because it was a little hard to find this article on Google or the Wikipedia search. Carbito (talk) 06:19, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

8-kernel approach vs. gradient[edit]

The article mentions that the system uses 8 rotated versions of the matrices instead of the 2 kernel gradient approach, but the "Formulation" section describes the gradient approach. This is confusing, at the very least the formulation should mathematically describe the rotated kernel version as well. --Jludwig (talk) 02:46, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Costella operator[edit]

I removed references to the Costella operator per discussion at Talk:Sobel_operator#Costella_Kernel. — Control.valve (talk) 18:34, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

G_x and G_y[edit]

The G_x matrix as given, wouldn't that look for vertical edges? And G_y as given looks for horizontal edges? I might be wrong though.

It seems that if x increases when going to right G_x is OK, when y increases when going down G_y needs to be -G_y? In the end the absolute value of the gradient does not change.

"Prewitt" should not redirect here[edit]

There should be a disambiguation page, there are plenty of people and places called Prewitt — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.146.215 (talk) 11:55, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
