I'm a first timer[edit]

can some one review Vision+ and tell me if i did a good job or not CosXZ (talk) 00:12, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me. Thanks for your help, welcome to the Guild and all the best, Miniapolis 13:18, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Miniapolis, I am also a first timer. Would you be able to review this article as well: Radha Mohan Das Agarwal It will be appreciated. Thanks Techy.Sap (talk) 09:22, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help, and welcome to the Guild. You've made improvements, but see WP:CE and Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to; copyediting (in this article, removing "Dr." and using or removing "the") is something you learn by doing. Since you're done with the copyedit, please remove the {{copy edit}} tag from the top of the page. Have fun and all the best, Miniapolis 13:32, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your support and quick response. Techy.Sap (talk) 11:42, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prosesize not working on Alejandro Agag[edit]

Prosesize doesn't appear to be working for me. I've also tried it on other articles. It highlights the text, but doesn't display the word count. —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 15:36, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It works now. —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 20:33, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another first timer[edit]

Would welcome any feedback on Papercut (Linkin Park song). Jonathan Deamer (talk) 17:14, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, and thanks for your help. All the best, Miniapolis 18:07, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

also a first timer[edit]

Any feedback on Economic corridor? The article has plenty of non-copy-edit issues and I'm not sure if I've done too much, or if there's an element I'm missing, or what Malvoliox (talk) 21:08, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks pretty good overall! I did a bit of additional cleanup (see WP:OVERLINK). Welcome to the drive, and thanks for your help! Note: see MOS:ENGVAR. In general, we don't change national (British/American) spelling variations without reason. Wracking talk! 21:24, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks a ton! Makes sense. The overlinking definitely needed some help. Malvoliox (talk) 21:32, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

'Total Words' added or long?[edit]

This is my first drive I have been apart of, and I was wondering if each user's tally of 'Total Words' refers to the total prose added to each article, or the total prose of the articles that were coedited.

Also, is the May Drive page self-updating, or does the user have to continuously report their progress? Thanks!

GGOTCC (talk) 04:49, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good questions, GGOTCC, and thanks for joining us! We're glad you're here.
"Total words" refers to the total number of words copy edited (fully reviewed and edited). Usually, that means the full article, which you can measure using Prosesize. Sometimes, we just edit part of an article (usually a section that has been tagged). In that case, you can paste the original section into a word counter (you can use a word processor, or a website like I do), and use that as your total.
I took a quick look at your edits in particular, so here is some more specific advice. For M.V. Ramana Murthy, you copy edited the entire article. The version before you began editing had a word count of 412 according to Prosesize. That is the number that should be in parentheses after that article's title. The numbers in parentheses after completed articles should sum to the number listed as |total-words = .
I also made some additional copy edits to the article, mostly related to formatting. We try to use prose instead of lists, and try to avoid resume-like construction of articles.
No, the May drive page is not self-updating. Drive participants are generally responsible for updating their own progress:
  1. In your section, add copy-edited articles, word counts, and (if applicable) special status such as Old article or Request
  2. In your section, sum the total articles and total words. You can use simple expressions, if you'd like.
  3. If you would like, update the Leaderboard with your progress as appropriate. Due to the nature of the leaderboard, this only applies to some editors. All participating editors are awarded with barnstars associated with their total words copy edited.
For more information, you can also check out WP:GOCE/DRIVE, which lists more detailed instructions. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any other questions. Welcome to the Guild! Wracking talk! 05:26, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thank you very much for the help, I really appreciate it! Happy copyediting! GGOTCC (talk) 14:19, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Taking someone else's[edit]

What happens when I accidentally put someone else's article into my totals because they did not remove the {{copy edit}} tag beforehand and did not work on the article for a week? Do they get half-credit, or does it count towards just my totals? Mox Eden (talk) 11:08, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on how much they've done (if anything), I guess. To avoid situations like this, I check its history before "claiming" an article. You can also ping the other editor on their talk page and work out who deserves what credit. All the best, Miniapolis 15:39, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yet Another First Timer[edit]

Hi! Can someone check Al-Farabi Kazakh National University? With hindsight, I probably should've started with a shorter article. Thanks :D. GoldRomean (talk) 14:23, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, and thanks for your help. I changed the article rating from stub- to start-class. All the best, Miniapolis 15:46, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First/second timer requesting help on an article with heavy WP:COI concerns[edit]

Hi there! Relative newcomer here — it's my first GOCE Drive, but I helped out with last month's Blitz — and I'm enjoying being a part of this community so far! I am requesting help on a issue separate from copy editing: I copy-edited John Tillmann, and I think it's mostly fine from a CE perspective now (feel free to check), but in so doing I noticed some suspicious edit histories. Turns out, given available evidence (here's my quick writeup, see last section), I'm >90% confident that the majority of the article was written either by the subject (a neo-Nazi art thief and alleged serial abuser) or by someone close enough to him to cause WP:COI concerns. What are the proper next steps to take? Although most of the article's information seems to be vaguely verifiable(?), some of it is self-praising in a peacock-y way, and at least parts of it cite sources that simply don't back up its claims. What's proper protocol here? Thanks in advance. SunTunnels (talk) 14:02, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The page can be tagged. Thanks for your help and all the best, Miniapolis 20:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inflated word count[edit]

Hi all. I was a little puzzled when I saw myself listed on the leaderboard. In this edit to the drive page a one sentence copyedit I made for {{copy edit inline}} (diff) and had assessed at 16 words was inflated to the full prosecount of the article, over 10k words. I've changed it back and taken myself off of the leaderboard but thought I should mention it. – Reidgreg (talk) 06:42, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting us know, Reidgreg; I left a note on their talk page. All the best, Miniapolis 13:38, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry @Reidgreg Cos (X + Z) 21:17, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question about tag changes (just curious)[edit]

Hi all, just a quick question out of sheer curiosity: it seems like over the past week or two there's been significant changes (both upwards and downwards) to the number of outstanding copy-edit-needed tags. I am wondering: what's going on there? It looks like it's related to changes in the number of May 2024 tags, but who decides if there's been overtagging of articles, etc., and how? Thanks in advance. SunTunnels (talk) 08:43, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol is also having a backlog-reduction drive this month, and this is what happens . All the best, Miniapolis 13:27, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
